New statistics on the Russian car market from the Association of European Businesses (AEB) show that car sales in the Russian Federation peaked sharply in March. Against this background, however, various brands stand out, which not only managed to maintain their sales level, but also strengthen their position in our country.
For example, Haval, which is in 11th place in the first three months of 2022, sold 27% more than in January-March 2021: 8,311 cars compared to 6558 a year earlier.
And Haval – although the most important, but not the only striking example. Mitsubishi occupies 14th place in the sales ranking in the first quarter of 2022, increasing sales by 12%: 5,747 cars compared to 5,132 a year earlier. Just behind that, Geely, which increased sales by 59%: 5543 units. in January-March 2022 against 3490 units. in the APPG.
Cheryexeed is having a good year: sales of last year’s 520 cars (January-March/2021) rose to 2,312 this year thanks to new models, a 345% increase. Another Chinese brand is also in black: Changan has a 12% increase, selling 1,277 cars in January-March 2022 compared to 1,143 a year earlier. Genesis, Opel, Isuzu and Chevrolet have also increased sales, but their volumes do not exceed a few hundred units.
Overall, the market is contracting, this is what January-March 2022 sales look like for the top three: Lada – sales down 37% (52,712 units against 83,908 a year earlier), Kia – down by 35% (33,658 vs. 51,624), Hyundai — 25% reduction (30,026 vs. 40,122). For all brands, the market shrank by 28.4%. And if we exclude the relatively prosperous January and February, the revenue decline for the first month of spring was 62.9%.
