Automotive specialists Vyacheslav Subbotin and Mikhail Kolodochkin recently discussed safe driving practices during rain, underlining how weather changes demand a different approach to staying in control on wet roads. The information was reported by RT.
Both experts warned that puddles pose the greatest danger in rainy conditions. Subbotin noted that as little as a thin water film of about 5 milliliters atop the road can cause a vehicle to lose traction and become unmanageable, turning a routine drive into a precarious situation.
He advised drivers to approach puddles with extreme caution to avoid creating or riding waves, and to exit the water calmly once a safe path is identified. In such moments, he suggested activating hazard lights and relocating the vehicle to a secure spot, adding that the floodwaters typically recede within a short period, making it safer to continue once the water level drops.
Kolodochkin pointed out an additional risk hidden beneath puddles: potholes. He stressed the importance of reducing speed in heavy downpours and using fog lights to improve visibility for both the driver and others on the road.
Earlier in the day, Moscow’s urban economy complex reported that in some districts the rain dumped more than 40 percent of the month’s total precipitation in under an hour. The department noted that the North-Eastern Administrative Region experienced the highest rainfall, tallying about 33 millimeters in that span.
There was also mention of an earlier report about impacts on supply chains following August 1, with information circulating about disruptions to vehicle and service operations in Russia during that period. This context underscores how heavy rainfall can affect traffic and urban logistics, reinforcing the need for heightened caution when weather conditions deteriorate (RT).
