Experts from Za Rulem, the oldest and most authoritative automotive publication in Russia, Sergey Mishin and Dmitry Testov, tested winter tires with studs for crossovers in size 235/60 R18. This is a very popular size, suitable for the premium Audi Q5 and Mercedes-Benz GLC as well as the popular kia Sorento or Hyundai Santa Fe.

The main feature of the test is a comparison of the characteristics of tires of different price segments. A total of eight sets of winter tires were tested. In tests, along with the Nokian Hakkapeliitta 10P SUV, the capabilities of low-cost tires were also tested – Viatti Bosco Nordico and Tigar SUV Ice, the cost of which is about 7,500 and 11,000 rubles, respectively, as well as the Russian-made Yokohama iceGuard iG worth 65 less than 15,000 rubles.

Viatti Bosco Nordico

These Russian tires were pleasantly surprised by the fact that the car brakes well on dry roads. They also offer a decent level of comfort. In addition, they keep a good course on asphalt and provide solid handling on snow and ice.

Downsides include poor grip on ice and longer braking distances on wet surfaces. Of the minor drawbacks, the highest rolling resistance of the tested tires in the test.

Tigar SUV Ice

These Serbian ties have shown other advantages. In particular, they proved to have the best performance when braking on asphalt. In addition, they perfectly keep their course on the same asphalt, and outside the asphalt they provide a decent crossingability. In addition, tires can boast of the smoothness they give to the course of the crossover.

But these tires also have drawbacks. These are weak longitudinal grip on snow, poor handling on snowy roads and noise.

Yokohama iceGuard iG65

These tires have excellent lateral and accelerating grip on ice. In addition, they give the crossover good cross-country ability and keep the trail perfect.
