The production of tires under the contract with PJSC Irkut (design, production and sales of aviation equipment) is planned to be organized at companies located in the Altai area. This issue was discussed at a meeting attended by representatives from Nortek, YaShZ Avia, Barnaul Plant ATI and Barnaul RTI, where the possibility of producing import substitute products was clarified.
Today Nortek Altai Tire Plant is the only aircraft tire manufacturer in Russia. Sanctions pressure on Russia also impacted the business – orders increased. It produces aircraft tires not only for medium-haul aircraft, but also for light and heavy trucks, agricultural and industrial equipment and ATVs.

MS-21 (“Main Aircraft of the Twenty-first Century”) is a Russian narrow-body medium-haul passenger aircraft, which is being developed by the Irkut Corporation together with the Yakovlev Design Bureau, which is part of it. The MC-21 family of aircraft includes two models: MC-21-200, designed to carry 132 to 165 passengers, and MC-21-300, from 163 to 211 passengers. The main feature of the passenger ship is the wing made of Russian-made composite material.
The aircraft was first presented at MAKS in September 2019, but the start of series production was repeatedly postponed for various reasons. The airliner made its maiden flight at the end of December 2021.
Foreign manufacturers refused to provide parts for the aircraft, even with prepaid orders, so equivalent replacements are sought. In addition to tires, the motors for the MS-21 will also be for domestic use. Work on the certification of the imported version continues.
Recently, the head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Denis Manturov, said mass production of an all-Russian version of the MS-21 will begin in 2024.
