The temporary registration procedure for cars imported into Russia without an SOS button ended on October 1, reports the GLONASS JSC press service. It is clarified that the changes will affect legal entities and individual entrepreneurs – when importing cars into the Russian Federation, they will have to equip equipment with emergency call systems (SES), namely the SOS button.
What happened
Recall that the traffic police spoke on the subject about two weeks ago and noted that cars imported into the country cannot be equipped with SVES. However, the full text of the message contained an important caveat – the SOS button may be omitted if you have imported the car for personal use:
“In accordance with the rules, the assessment of individual vehicles not equipped with such systems or devices, when they are imported into Russia by individuals for their own needs, is now carried out in accordance with the technical regulations of the Customs Union. wheeled vehicle safety” (TR TS 018/2011) without auditing compliance with the requirements provided for in Section 5 of Annex No. 4 to this Regulation. According to Annex No. 7 of the rules, compliance with these requirements with regard to this category of vehicles is not checked,” the traffic police said in a statement.
Various buyers
The rules in this case are the “Rules for the application of mandatory requirements for certain wheeled vehicles and the assessment of their compliance”, which are determined by the Decree of the Government of the Russian Federation of May 12, 2022 No. 855. So an important point: the right not to place the SOS button remained with private buyers who bought the car for themselves.
The same Decree No. 855 (as amended by Decree No. 1269 of the Government of the Russian Federation of July 15, 2022) is also mentioned in a new message from the press service of JSC GLONASS. And in this post, as mentioned above, the order is clarified for legal entities and individual entrepreneurs: from October 1, the installation of SVES (SOS buttons) on imported cars will be mandatory.
“Specialists from JSC GLONASS partner companies will assist with the installation of the SVES near the busiest customs points. To curb the speculative price increases for SVES, manufacturers will determine the recommended retail price for such devices,” reports ERA-GLONASS.
Will there be problems?
It is clarified that all data on official dealers and installation points of SVES is available on a dedicated website – sves.aoglonass.ru. In the same place, car owners can leave complaints about the high cost of SOS buttons.
Messages are sent to device manufacturers and to the FAS Russia. This will simplify the procedure and neutralize speculation about the prices of SOS buttons and their installation on cars, the company believes.
