Russian demand for auto parts in the online segment has grown 23 times over the year, according to data from the Wildberries marketplace, owned by RIA Novosti.
Demand
In September, the demand for spare parts increased almost 23 times. This is likely due to the fact that in today’s circumstances people would rather maintain and repair their cars than buy new ones, say marketplace experts.
Buyers were especially interested in oil, air, fuel and cabin filters, spark plugs, car fuses, high voltage cables, brake pads, brake discs, stabilizer bars and hub bearings. Car owners prefer spare parts from South Korea, Japan and China.
Usually in September they searched for spare parts for Lada (all models), Renault Logan and Duster, Hyundai solaris and kia Rio.
shortage
Demand growth also accelerated prices – depending on the car brand, spare parts have risen in price by 35-65% since January, and for the most popular they have more than doubled.
Frequently requested parts Ford, Subaru, Suzuki, Renault, Audi, Mazda, Volvo. For example, engine oil for Kia Rio and Hyundai Solaris added 40%, front and rear blocks – 65%.
Big Issues Of spare parts for BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Jaguar, Land Rover, Volvo, Lexus, GM and Porsche. Especially with body parts, windscreens, complex components (gearboxes, engines, differentials). Body parts for such cars in some cases have increased in price by 50%, and the cost of windscreens reached 500 thousand, and people were forced to buy, one of the car services told the agency.
There is also a shortage in the budget segment. The most scarce consumables are oil and fuel filters, which are required for scheduled maintenance.
Original used
There are practically no originals on the market – 8-9%, the rest are analog, although often their quality is even higher than the original, they say in auto services. However, there is also a lot of low quality counterfeit and it is already appearing on store shelves. There was hope for parallel imports, but the threat of sanctions makes it impossible to take products with a unique VIN number. For example, electronic components or an engine block.
A new trend has emerged: consumers are offered second-hand original spare parts. This is often the only way out in the event of major failures.
