The Russian car industry is in serious decline: 298.6 thousand passenger cars were produced in January-July 2022, which is 64.1% less than in the same period last year. The situation is identical for the shipment of finished products to dealers: 296.1 thousand cars, which is 64.3% less than a year earlier, according to the analysis company ASM-Holding.
The production of foreign brands decreased by 64.1%, only 206.8 thousand cars were produced. Here is a full list of Russian enterprises where production has been suspended or completely stopped:
- Factories in St. Petersburg – “Toyota Motor”, “Nissan Manufacturing Rus”, “Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Rus”;
- Volkswagen Group Russian;
- Renault Russia;
- Renault contract assembly at AVTOVAZ;
- Contract assembly of Volkswagen, Skoda at GAZ;
- “PSMA Russian”;
- Mazda Sollers Production Russian;
- Mercedes-Benz Production Russian;
- “Ford Soller’s Elabuga”;
- BMW production at the Avtotor plant.
As for the Russian car brands, all of them have seriously reduced, suspended or completely stopped production during the specified period. As a result, the decline in domestic brands amounted to 64.0%, only 91.8 thousand cars were produced. Here’s what the production decline looks like, broken down by brand and division:
- AVTOVAZ (Tolyatti) – 56.2%;
- Lada Sport (Tolyatti) -46.0%;
- Lada Izhevsk – 71.4%;
- ChechenAuto -60.0%;
- UAZ – 64.9%.
At the same time, Havale Motor Manufacturing Rus increased production by 30.4% in January-July 2022 compared to January-July 2021.
Obviously, due to the activation of Chinese automakers, the share of foreign brands in the total passenger car production in Russia in January-July 2022 did not change – 69.3%, was exactly the same in January-July 2021.
