The day before, the North Ossetian government’s press service reported that about 3,500 cars were waiting at the Upper Lars checkpoint to head toward Georgia.
An external meeting was held at the site, at which the Minister of the Interior of North Ossetia, the head of the State Traffic Inspectorate, together with the heads of the Border Directorate of the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation for North Ossetia-Alania and the North -Ossetian customs took part, reports the Telegram channel of the Russian Interior Ministry for North Ossetia-Alania.
For the safety of the citizens and to reduce the risks of illegal behavior and the creation of conflict situations, the participants of the meeting agreed to allow citizens to cross the border on foot. Until now, there was a peculiarity at the border crossing between Russia and Georgia: the border checkpoint was not allowed to be crossed on foot, only with cars, motorcycles and bicycles. Hitchhiking tourists were advised to get into a passing car. Now citizens are allowed to cross the border on foot.
The influx of vehicles towards Georgia is increasing. Despite the measures taken, including an extension of the 24-hour traffic police and patrol service, the situation remains extremely tense and additional measures need to be taken in organizing the security of citizens.
In addition, a mobilization point of the military registration and recruitment office will be set up at the Upper Lars checkpoint in the near future.
The results of the meeting were reported to the head of the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania.
