The reason for this may be the seemingly pointless filling of the fuel tank up to the plug.
But we must not forget that gas tanks are not just a container, but a rather complex device, equipped, among other things, with a ventilation system.
If the tank is full and there is even gasoline in the neck, the ventilation will not work and fuel will flow through the drains.
It is impossible to notice the seeping gasoline as all the pipes are hidden. Depending on the design of the vehicle, they may not even be visible from below.
“For example, fuel can get on the wiring, which is full of fire and corrosion, as well as on the chassis parts, which also poses ignition risks,” Maxim Ryazanov, technical director of the Fresh Auto dealer network, told Prime.
The expert also clarified that the risk of fuel leaks and ignition is higher in older cars. Filling the tank to the eyeballs can do less harm to modern cars.
