Automatic four-wheel drive systems for crossovers are very similar. The set of modes, locks and other options may vary, but all have an electromagnetic clutch, gearbox and cardan.
In any of the nodes, ailments can already appear with low mileage – with a negligent attitude of the owner. Whether he changes the oil or not, how often did he slip for a long time – who knows? Frictions wear in the clutch, splines on the shafts and crosses on the cardan.
When choosing the secondary, the state of the engine can be judged by noise and exhaust, boxes – by the smoothness of shifting. The hardest part is to understand the state of the four-wheel drive. The seller is unlikely to allow driving the car in snowdrifts or mud, and they are not always at hand. On asphalt, it is not worth it to force four-wheel drive, causing slip. In addition to identifying abnormal sounds of unclear etiology, this will not work.
There are no sensible methods of explicit analysis. In a good way, the car has to be driven to the service with a lift. Check with a computer, look for leaks, spin a few wheels and watch the shaft drive response. Such an inspection does not provide a complete insight into the degree of wear of the transmission. But then at least it becomes clear that at the moment everything is working properly (or not). And that the car certainly has four-wheel drive. There are instances where sellers have successfully handed out 4×2 for 4×4.
