The disrupted supply chain from Japan and Europe remains an insurmountable obstacle to the restart of the Nissan plant in St. Petersburg. From these regions, components for the production of crossovers of three models – Qashqai, X-Trail and Murano – were delivered to the factory conveyor. The factory is standing still, because there is no component base for assembly yet.

Therefore, the suspension of the Russian company was extended until the end of 2022, Reuters reports, citing the Nikkei. It was previously intended that the factory could still start in September.

Recall that the Nissan plant in St. Petersburg closed on March 14, 2022. In June, Saint Petersburg Governor Alexander Beglov said that the work of factories of foreign brands (besides Nissan, these are Hyundai and Toyota) will resume after the full recovery of supply chains. He noted that the owners of enterprises behave very dignified, dismiss employees only on personal request and pay the remaining 2/3 of the average salary.

  • Later that month, Nissan CEO Makoto Uchida expressed the hope that production in Russia could be restarted at the end of September.
  • “Behind the wheel” can be read in Odnoklassniki.
