A ball is a simple, and therefore a beautiful geometric body. But the perfection of the mental image is often distorted in the “earthly” incarnation – for example, in an unusable or worn ball joint. If she starts acting up, forget about normal driving.
For our expertise, we have purchased parts from 13 manufacturers to fit many Hyundai/Kia models, including the popular Kia Rio and Solaris. The same prop goes to a large number of Mitsubishi sedans, hatchbacks and even minivans, as well as a number of Volvo models. The cost of purchased samples presented in our photo gallery is from 650 to 1300 rubles. The price difference is double.
Ashika 73-05-512
estimated price 800 Not the most famous Italian spare parts manufacturer made it into the top ten. The requirements of the standard are met by a margin, 50 degrees of frost turned out to be nothing, the corrosion resistance is normal, and the surface layer hardness is one of the highest in our sample. Yes, and the price is not prohibitive. Recommended first. |
Belmag BM SBJ 030
estimated price 650 The Belarusian support showed average results in strength exercises, as well as normal corrosion resistance and acceptable surface hardness. But somehow it did not work in the freezer: the anther cracked at -40 ˚С. We can therefore only recommend it to a limited extent for use in warm regions. |
CTR CB0186
estimated price 750 The mount famously passed almost all tests, but at the last temperature limit, it still couldn’t stand it: the anther crumbled to pieces. Of course “fifty dollars” on a thermometer is a rarity, but we can only recommend its use to a limited extent in regions with a temperate climate. |
Delphi TC2664
estimated price 1100 The expensive support showed a fairly modest margin in pull-out tests – this is the weakest result in the sample. Passed all tests except frost resistance testing at -50 . We can only recommend limited use if there is no alternative. |
Phenox BJ10 126
estimated price 850₽ Of the advantages – the highest hardness of the surface layer. And the main drawback is the very low corrosion resistance: solid rust on the finger and body. In addition, he is afraid of frost: the trunk in the freezer quickly cracked. We don’t recommend it. |
Hanse HB 900 203
estimated price 800 When measuring the pull-out force, the thread was cut off the nut. The hardness is very low, also the frost resistance. We don’t recommend it. |
Hyundai/Kia 54530-DV000
estimated price 1000 The support purchased as original passed almost all tests quietly, but unexpectedly found itself in the company of pussies with a very low corrosion resistance. Rust on the finger and on the body – how to understand this? Don’t you drive in the rain? We recommend limited use in the absence of an alternative. |
KYB KB J1162
estimated price 1100 Best corrosion resistance in our test. And the only flat tire was in the freezer at the last border: the trunk had crumbled to dust. And the price is one of the highest. We recommend limited use away from Siberian frost. |
Lemförder 29666 02
estimated price 1300 € Another shot at the “top ten” – no comments. True, the price is the highest in the sample. Recommended. |
Marshall MB 100370
estimated price 750 It is afraid of rust, its surface is practically unpaved, and the anther is not frost-resistant. We don’t recommend it. |
Miles DB 35003
estimated price 650 The ball is practically not hardened, and the anther is afraid of frost. We don’t recommend it. |
Pilenga TS-P 373
estimated price 750 When measuring the pull-out force, the thread was cut off the nut. Corrosion resistance is none. Hardness is also no. Frost is afraid. We don’t recommend it. |
Stellox 52-00056A-SX
estimated price 650 Almost an excellent student: the only misfire was in the cold at 50˚С. We recommend limited use where it is not so cold in winter. |
In modern cars with MacPherson suspension, ball joints are mainly loaded by braking and pulling forces, as well as side forces when cornering. Pulling a finger out of the body, unlike Zhiguli, is rare. But it is the pull-out and extrusion forces prescribed by current standards that make it possible to indirectly evaluate the resistance of ball bearings under lateral loads.
We performed these tests on an R-20 tensile testing machine with special equipment. In addition, we measured the hardness of spherical surfaces using the Rockwell method on a TR-5006-M hardness tester.
The moment the finger is pulled out of the body, the force is fixed.
Traditionally, the anthers of the supports were sent to the Tefcold SE30-45-P digitally controlled freezer, where their resistance was assessed first to a temperature of minus 40 and then to minus 50. As usual, the corrosion resistance of the products was evaluated.
The body of all samples is coated with an anti-corrosion coating. But the effectiveness of protection varies widely. Not only the body is rusting, but also the pin, nut, lock washer and even the spring washer that holds the case.
What parameters of ball bearings are considered normal? The starting point is GOST R 52433-2005, which gives the minimum permissible values for the pull-out force and the force for extruding the ball pin from the hinge body. With a ball diameter of 21-25 mm, the declared forces should correspond to 1500 and 2100 kgf, respectively, and in the range from 25 to 29 mm – 2100 kgf and 3000 kgf. The standard does not specify specific hardness values: it “must correspond to the design documentation”.
Not all anthers are “equally useful” in Siberian frost conditions. Sample No. 2: With such an anther, the life of the hinge is measured in several hundred kilometers.
