The first generation Rapid was sold until 2020. For nine years, the model has been massively sold out: at the same time, more than a thousand options are offered on the secondary market. Since 2014 they have been collected in Kaluga.
It is quite clear which gearboxes should be preferred when choosing a used Rapid. The mechanical five-speed MQ200 (also known as 02T and 0AJ) is flawless and goes more than 300 thousand km. The classic AQ160 (09G) assault rifle is an improved version of the Japanese Aisin TF-60SN. Six steps. It has its own problems, but almost all breakdowns are related to natural wear and tear and appear no earlier than 150 thousand km. The main thing is not to overheat and change the oil on time. The machine keeps more than 250 thousand km.
To the preselective robot with two dry clutches DQ200 (DSG7) with runs of 100 thousand km – a cautious attitude. The remaining source is completely unclear. Under the most favorable conditions, it can withstand 180-200 thousand km, but very many still need a shot up to 150 thousand km. And it’s expensive, especially now. In advanced cases it makes economic sense to replace the complete unit.

In-line three-cylinder aspirated, all aluminum, distributed injection, there are hydraulic lifters, designed for AI-95. Using the 92nd will cause the degradation of many elements, which is not particularly noticeable in appearance, but certainly reduces the resource. The first is the catalytic converter. Due to soot, compression drops, there were cases of burnt valves. In addition, when using AI-92, you will often have to clean the throttle, nozzles and crankcase ventilation channels. And the constant clogging of candles leads to faulty ignition coils.
Overall, the engine is quite acceptable, except for the fast stretching timing chain, which the factory hasn’t bothered to cure. Plus, not the most successful tensioner design. Modest power encourages you to step on the pedal harder, which is why the chain often asks for replacement after 50-70 thousand km. With very gentle treatment, it is capable of 150 thousand. Chain jump leads to mechanical damage. There are problems with a cold start – sometimes the engine “doubles up”.
The declared resource is 240 thousand km, in reality it can withstand 300 thousand. But still it did not become popular and desirable – mainly due to a lack of power and a shortage of many spare parts.
