The Kamaz Press and Frame Plant (PRZ) reported on the development of a new product – a cabin frame for the light vehicle Compass. We previously announced the start of welding and assembly of these booths, but the localization is a gradual process, and as only three samples were submitted for testing in June, the conditions for series production have now been created in booth assembly, welding and painting workshops.
Recall that the Russian car giant produces cabins of the new family under license from the Chinese company JAC; Compass itself is the essence of the custom JAC N-Series. On February 15, the first cabin frame was welded at the PRZ. Equipment provided by partners consists of four main items. On the first there is a logistics zone, on the second – the main assembly and welding jig, where the frame is formed, then the post of additional cooking and hanging doors.
“From the very first days, we have had the task of ensuring the high quality of the cab frame. Work has been done on diagnostics and programming of the line. It was important to ensure high quality control of the geometric parameters of the experimental cabin frames; it was performed in the Zeiss factory laboratory. After a series of measurements, the adjustment of the welding line was carried out. This painstaking work took about three months,” said Sergey Alyapkin, RPP’s deputy chief engineer for re-engineering.
At the same time, personnel were trained, the Durr paint line was adapted to paint the frame of a new family of trucks, a shadow-free camera was built, part supply logistics were reorganized and production facilities were rebuilt. All work is expected to be completed by the end of this year.
Now Compass is already on the market – a version of Compass-9 with a payload of 3.4 tons with a Cummins turbo diesel with an output of 154 hp is composed of partially localized components. and six-speed manual transmission. Compass-12, Compass-5 and Compass-3 should appear in the family in the future.
- Well, Compass-9 is gradually getting special additions – for example, the first garbage trucks were produced in May.
- “Driving” can now be viewed on RuTube.
