Interior manufacturer Grupo Antolin and detector supplier Trinamix are developing a facial recognition vehicle access system.

Trinamix, a BASF subsidiary, has expertise in biometric security and is active in the smartphone market.

The Trinamix facial recognition system is certified according to the highest biometric security standards. It works with unique, proprietary algorithms that can verify that it is a real person and grant access accordingly.

The system authenticates the driver using biometric data as he approaches the vehicle. In this way they want to offer consumers maximum convenience without compromising data protection. Moreover, the car will be almost impossible to steal because your face is unique. In the same way that biometrics have impacted the security and usability of smartphones, it could have the same impact on the automotive industry.

“By integrating biometric solutions into our components, we can offer our customers innovative systems that combine smart lighting, electronics and smart surfaces with facial authentication,” said Marta Cuevas, Group Director Antolin Lighting & HMI.

Drivers are already opting for “keyless” cars, but the automotive industry is moving forward and the next step could be biometrics as a key to your car.
