If the ball is fickle, you should forget about normal driving. Suspension rumble, increased effort on the steering wheel and out of control poor directional stability. It’s time to change! Which ball joints to choose? Mikhail Kolodochkin and Aleksey Revin ask this question in the new issue of Za Rulem magazine – and they test parts from 13 manufacturers that will fit many Hyundai/Kia models (including Kia Rio and Solaris), as well as many Mitsubishi and even a few from Volvos.

The body of all samples is coated with an anti-corrosion coating. But the effectiveness of protection varies widely. Not only the bodywork is rusting, but also the pin, nut, lock washer and even the spring washer that holds the boot

The force of pulling a finger out of the body using an R-20 tensile tester, the hardness of spherical surfaces according to Rockwell on a TR-5006-M hardness tester and frost resistance (at -40°C and -50°C) in a Tefcold SE30-45 digitally controlled freezer were evaluated.-P, as well as the corrosion resistance of products. The tests revealed leaders as well as obvious outsiders.

Worse than others in the test turned out to be:

  • Miles DB 35003 (650 ). The ball is practically not hardened, and the anther is afraid of frost.
  • Marshall MB 100370 (750 ). It is afraid of rust, its surface is practically unpaved, and the anther is not frost-resistant.
  • Pilenga TS-P 373 (750 ). When measuring the pull-out force, the thread was cut off the nut. Corrosion resistance – none, as well as hardness. Frost is afraid.
  • Hanse HB 900 203 (800 ). The same applies to measuring the pull-out force – the thread of the nut is cut. The hardness is very low, also the frost resistance.
  • Phenox BJ 10 126 (850 ). Of the advantages – the highest hardness of the surface layer. And the main drawback is the very low corrosion resistance: solid rust on the finger and body. In addition, he is afraid of frost: the trunk in the freezer quickly cracked.

There are also averages in our test – they can be recommended for use under certain conditions and with certain reservations. But there were also people who did not need any reservations, because they had endured all our “bullying” with honor.

What ball bearings to pay attention to when buying and how not to make a mistake when choosing, read in the September issue of the magazine “Behind the wheel”. Now available!

  • Autumn, the car needs to be washed more often – make sure you are not separated at the car wash.
  • “Driving” can now be viewed on RuTube.

The note was prepared on the basis of the article “On the ball” by Mikhail Kolodochkin and Alexei Revin.
