After the termination of the cooperation between AvtoVAZ and Renault Group, the strategy for developing the model range of the Lada brand is undergoing significant changes – the Russian auto giant had to abandon many plans that were considered joint plans. However, there will be new models: Earlier, President Maxim Sokolov spoke about a new platform for Lada cars, about the C-class family, and also about a crossover based on Lada Vesta.

Dmitry Kostromin, vice president of sales and marketing of AvtoVAZ, revealed new nuances in the development of the model line of the domestic brand in an interview with the analytical agency Avtostat. In particular, he outlined the prospects for the development of the Vesta platform.

“All work on the above projects is in full swing. Statistics show that the SUV segment is by far the largest in the Russian market. The Lada brand is not fully represented there, only by Niva SUVs, and we want to enter this niche more actively. Most likely, such a car will be designed on the basis of Lada Vesta,” said Kostromin.

So we are talking about a really new model based on AVTOVAZ’s own platform. Recall that there are now cross versions in the Vesta line – but these are rather elevated station wagons, devoid of four-wheel drive. Whether it will appear on the new model is an open question. As for Vesta itself, it will be restarted on the assembly line in Togliatti in early 2023.

In the same year, AVTOVAZ plans to locate those components that are still scarce after the imposition of sanctions (it is known that part of this shortage will be eliminated not by localization, but by supplies from the Asia-Pacific countries) , such as and to restore almost the entire pre-crisis model range.

  • “Almost”, because production of the Lada XRAY model at AVTOVAZ was finally stopped.
  • “Behind the wheel” can be read in Odnoklassniki.
