From September 13, the basic rate for OSAGO for each motorist is set by insurers in the range from 1,646 to 7,535 rubles. For example, the base rate corridor will expand up and down by 26% for most car owners, TASS writes, citing the message from the Bank of Russia. In effect, this means that the policy becomes cheaper for some and more expensive for others.
The Central Bank of the Russian Federation believes that the expansion of the corridor will allow insurers to take into account the individual risks of drivers in a situation of rising spare parts prices. By lowering the lower limit of the corridor, insurers can offer more favorable conditions to drivers with lower risks. And rising spare parts prices will hit high-risk policyholders.
This measure will help curb the price increase for OSAGO, according to the regulator, as there is more opportunity for differentiation – each driver will pay according to their own risk level. This is far from the first time this has been done: for example, exactly two years ago, the tariff corridor expanded by 10% in both directions – as a result, the average premium for OSAGO in 2021 has increased by 1.85% compared to 2020 .
- By the way, from September 11, the repair manuals for OSAGO will take into account the prices of spare parts analogues.
