LatinNCAP, an organization that evaluates vehicle safety for Latin America and the Caribbean, spent A series of crash tests of the Hyundai Tucson crossover, as a result of which the automaker decided to change the equipment of the car.
“In 2021, Latin NCAP tested the previous version of the Tucson with two airbags with zero stars as standard. The manufacturer later claimed that “the new Tucson is better and safer,” so the Latino NCAP decided to test the new Tucson in 2022,” the organization said in a statement.
However, tests of the 2022 crossover with two airbags resulted in the same zero results. The vehicle achieved a 50% rating for adult occupant protection, 5% for child safety, 48% for pedestrian protection, and 7% for assisted restraint systems.
Based on the test results, Hyundai decided to improve the basic equipment of the Tucson, in particular adding side airbags, side curtain airbags, three-point seat belts on all seats, as well as a stabilization system and additional signaling signs. A crossover with this equipment earned three LatinNCAP stars, according to the results of the crash test.
