The car driver Vladimir Belsky was found guilty of hooliganism with the use of objects used as weapons and beating a child. As a result, Belsky was given a year and a half probation. In addition, in a civil lawsuit against the child’s family, he is obliged to pay 1.5 million rubles.
Recall that in Priozersk, two children played along the road, firing balls from a toy machine at passing cars. Belsky drove up to the children, beat one child and put him on his knees (the second managed to escape) and kept him in this condition until the police arrived. It is true that Belsky himself expected that the police he called would punish the child and the parents. He admitted guilt only at the end of the investigation and put forward the version that the child himself knelt and asked him not to call the police.
After this case was made public and there was a public outcry, the matter was brought under scrutiny by the chairman of Russia’s Commission of Inquiry, Alexander Bastrykin. His colleagues detained Belsky and charged him.
In court, the prosecution stated that the children’s actions did not pose any danger to the man or his car. But Belsky’s aggressive actions posed a real danger and were intended solely to demonstrate his superiority. “Only by a lucky chance, his daring maneuver in an SUV and hitting a child did not lead to more serious consequences,” the Leningrad Region Inquiry Commission said in a statement. Then Belsky put the injured child on his knees, beat him and basically refused to call an ambulance for the child. According to the Public Prosecution Service, all this testifies to the obvious guilt of the driver.
However, according to many, the sentence was still too mild, but the Public Prosecution Service will not appeal and demand a heavier punishment for the driver.
- Recently, the court ruled in the high-profile case of the downed “drunk boy”.
- Another high-profile incident ended with the court sentenced the capital’s traffic police officers to 4.5 years in prison for beating the driver.
