Experts from Roskachestvo’s consumer rights protection department told about the method of fraud at gas stations.
Underfilling at domestic gas stations is associated with a curious feature, the department said. According to existing standards, the error in measuring the fuel dosed can be up to 50 ml for every 10 liters. It is forbidden to operate a fuel pump with an error greater than the allowable, but these 50 ml seem “not to count”. Therefore, even at the stage of installing a new gas station, the regulators change the volume of the measuring piston chamber by the same 50 ml. Here’s the savings, and you can’t call it a scam – everything is within the norm!
At one time, the tolerable error was lower: no more than 0.25, that is, 25 ml per 10 liters of fuel. But Rosstandart decided that it is technically difficult to provide such an accuracy class when refueling, also due to different climatic conditions. Therefore, in 2020 it was decided to set the fuel supply error to 0.5, i.e. 50 ml.
