23% of our compatriots went on holiday by car this year, 15% travel this way every year, another 26% do it periodically and 18% would really like to travel this way, Citydrive and Rosgosstrakh discovered during a joint research .

Those who don’t mind driving on holiday say they have traveled this way more often in the past two (16%), three (12%) or five (7%) years.

Why a car?

The respondents mentioned the following reasons: convenience (31%), cost (20%), safety and speed (14%), as well as beautiful views to admire during the trip (12%).

Where are they going?

Mostly Russians travel by car in their own country, only 8% of the respondents go abroad.

Russians do not like to travel far from home by car: just over a quarter (27%) do not go on holiday beyond their region, one in five (21%) is willing to travel to the neighboring region. Only 19% of respondents are willing to spend more than a day on the road, 6–9 hours – 18%.

Admittedly, there are some (17%) who enjoy not only driving around in a car for their entire holiday, but even spending the night in it.

Top 5 cars for traveling

The most suitable car for travel was called a motorhome by the survey participants – 38%. The top 5 best recreational vehicles also included:

  • Crossover / SUV – 33%
  • Minivan / minibus – 29%
  • Station wagon – 17%
  • Sedan / hatchback – 12%.

Electric cars have become the worst in tourism vehicle rankings. Only 5% of respondents are willing to choose them for travel.

Every fifth respondent said they went on holiday in a rental car at least once or more in their life, a further 8% do it often and 22% have not yet tried it but would very much like to.

In August 2022, an online survey was conducted on the social network VKontakte among 1,200 respondents living in all regions of Russia.
