During the booming growth of the Russian car market, Iranian cars were sold here that were inexpensive. For three years, from 2006 to 2008, more than 10 thousand cars were purchased. And they are all still running. In any case, they are registered with the traffic police.
Now the Iranian car industry is planning to re-enter the Russian market, but with more modern models.
Advantages such as the price of about 1 million rubles and a wide range of models will benefit the Iranian manufacturers, says Denis Migal, CEO of the car dealer network Fresh Auto. Iran’s Rira crossover can replace Khodro Hyundai Crete, skoda Karoq and other subcompact crossovers. Tara and Samand sedans become an alternative to Solaris, vw Polo or skoda fastwith which the country is tense.

Radio Avtodor editor-in-chief Igor Morzharetto does not share that optimism, pointing out that when Iranian cars are imported into Russia, their price will rise significantly (duties, VAT and salvage costs will be added to the cost). In his opinion, for the success of the Iranian car industry, it is necessary to organize the assembly production of cars in Russia. Manufacturers are then compensated on the basis of a special investment contract (SPIC) and cars become much cheaper.
“Since Iran does not produce the most modern cars, they have little chance of taking a large market share in our country. After all, the Russian consumer primarily chooses outwardly attractive cars. And brand reputation. For Iranian cars, these parameters are far from the first place. In terms of positioning, they can be traded in the niche of low-cost sedans that are actively buying corporate fleets and are now seriously lacking,” said Avtostat Alexei Makarov, director of development and business management at Nizhegorodets.
Andrey Olkhovsky, general manager of Avtodom Group of Companies, believes that it is necessary to arrange a battle check – to bring and watch the reaction of buyers. In addition, Iranian cars will compete with Ladami, which may not be allowed.
“Now partnerships may be determined in almost all areas by the geopolitical situation, therefore Russia’s potential cooperation in the car market is possible with any of the friendly countries producing cars on an industrial scale. It is important that potential partners take into account the specific features of the Russian climate – despite all the price attractiveness, it should be understood that the assembly of cars in warm countries is not designed for Russian conditions, and these cars can be partially re-equipped ”, says Yulia, director of development of the KlyuchAvto holding company Ovchinnikov.
