The 49th issue of The Cal™ (Pirelli Calendar) was photographed by Australian Emma Summerton. Shooting took place in New York for three days in June and then in London one day in July.
The concept for the Pirelli calendar for 2023 is inspired by the muses, imaginary and archetypal characters that have inspired the photographer throughout her life. This is a tribute to all the women who inspired Summerton, from her mother to an entire galaxy of women, including singers, actresses, artists, writers, activists and others.
Many of her images refer to both real and imaginary characters.
In this issue, Summerton herself tried to answer the questions honestly: who is the woman in her picture? Where did she come from? Where does she want to go? Who does she love? How does she like? What drives her? How does she present herself in this world?
As a result, it all became a fabulous and magical world, an entertaining story that the audience can dream away with.
As we live in a time where the ‘real’ and the ‘unreal’ increasingly meet, Emma seemed like the perfect artist to interpret this moment, said Marco Tronchetti, Executive Vice President and CEO of Pirelli.
The Muses were: Adwoa Aboah, Adut Akech, Hae Kong, Cara Delevingne, Ashley Graham, Bella Hadid, Karlie Kloss, Precious Lee, Lila Moss, Sasha Pivovarova, Emily Ratajkowski, Guinevere Van Sinus, Lauren Wasser and Kaya Wilkins.
We present you some photos of the future edition and the presentation of “Love Letters to the Muse” will traditionally take place in the fall, in November of this year.
