Aspirated VQ40DE V6 4.0 (269 hp) in the city eats 20 liters per hundred. With age, it also eats oil, its level should be monitored. Antifreeze control is necessary, because the engine is afraid of overheating.

The timing chain lives 200-250 thousand km. The source of the engine is more than 350 thousand. There were cases of mechanical damage due to low-quality AI-92.

Diesels are very economical. The base 2.5 (175, 190 hp) comes in two versions – the old with Bosch injection pump and the new with Denso Common Rail. Among diesels, it is considered very reliable. However, the fuel supply and the EGR valve quickly become clogged. The vacuum boost control system fails. The turbine is not very resourceful – 100-150 thousand km, installing a turbo timer can increase its service life. The timing chain is tenacious – more than 200 thousand, the engine itself can withstand more than 400 thousand km.

The three-liter Renault V9X diesel engine (231 hp) is also durable, but there are nuances. Of course the dynamics are just crazy, but the EGR valve gets clogged even faster, the timing chain is short-lived. At 150-200 thousand km, it is possible to rotate the liners – the oil pump is not efficient enough, and the oil channels become clogged. Spare parts are very expensive and there are no repair sizes.

Transfer

The six-speed mechanics are extremely reliable. Only compatible with 2.5 diesel. There are questions about the clutch source, it does not always withstand 70-100 thousand km.

The five-speed Jatco JR507E hydraulic automatic transmission was replaced during the restyling by the seven-speed JR711E – many of their parts are identical. And some problems too – electronics for example hums every now and then. The old unit is attentive and unhurried, but practically devoid of weaknesses and serves 350 thousand km. The new one tolerates aggressive operation better, but you should not abuse it – it will overheat. And it makes more demands on the purity of the working fluid. The source is about 300 thousand km.

  • The suspension is strong and energy-intensive, up to 100 thousand km nothing happens, except for the wear of the ball bearings – they are replaced as a whole with a lever. Wheel bearings – complete with hub and ABS sensors. The resource of the steering rack is highly dependent on road conditions, on average about 100 thousand, and the rods and tips go more. Knocking in the steering wheel is often associated with cardan shaft wear.
  • Nozzles freeze in winter, wiper zone heating is not provided. The roof lacks thermal insulation – condensation forms, which can then be found under the carpets.
  • Not very resistant electrical part. Individual harnesses and contacts are poorly placed, leading to failures of various systems. Several light bulbs often burn out, the fuel level sensor fails.
  • The pipes of the air conditioning circuit for the second row, which are laid under the floor, quickly rust and crack.
