According to the regional branch of the Interior Ministry, the driver of the heavy truck failed to brake in time, drove into the oncoming lane and collided with the bus, which was wedged between two trucks.
As a result of the accident, 16 people died, including 14 citizens of Kyrgyzstan. Three others were hospitalized in serious condition, their citizenships being established, according to the website of the Kyrgyz Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
According to preliminary data, the cause of the accident could be the ill health of the driver of the heavy truck. He died on the spot.
“The patients were transferred to the Ulyanovsk Regional Clinical Center for Specialized Medical Care, named after EM Chuchkalov. They are currently in intensive care, the institution’s specialists provide all the necessary medical care,” said the interlocutor of the TASS agency.
Employees of the Kyrgyz embassy in Russia left for the scene. The head of the Kyrgyz state, Sadyr Zhaparov, ordered to organize the repatriation of the bodies of the dead to their homeland by a special plane.
