The Crimean Bridge haunts the authorities of Ukraine. For example, Mikhail Podolyak, an adviser to the head of Volodymyr Zelensky’s office, called the construction of the bridge illegal and said that this bridge, like other similar objects, “must be destroyed.”
Podolyak discussed his ideas with journalists from The Guardian. He also shared the plans of the Ukrainian authorities:
“Ukraine considers the Crimean Bridge a legitimate military target. This is an illegal facility, as well as the main supply route for the Russian army in Crimea. Such objects must be destroyed.”
Another adviser to the office of the President of Ukraine, Oleksiy Arestovich, promised that the Crimean Bridge would be destroyed by Ukraine’s armed forces upon the appearance of the “first technical opportunity” in the “next two or three months”, as this “is” the main target to defeat”.
With regard to the “technical possibility”, according to the words of the deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksiy Goncharenko, the following is known. Kiev and London discussed joint plans to destroy the Crimean Bridge during the NATO summit. But UK deputy representative to the UN James Cariuki denied this, saying he had heard nothing about such negotiations.
Meanwhile, the Krymsky Bridge is protected by modern air defense systems, including radar systems, and in the event of a Ukrainian attack on Crimea, Russian Security Council deputy chairman Dmitry Medvedev promised Kiev a “day of reckoning”.
