Talks about the development of electric transport and charging infrastructure in the capital Alexandra Shumskaya is the head of the Energy of Moscow project.
How many electric vehicle charging stations are there in Moscow?
As part of the Energy of Moscow project, recharging points for electric vehicles (ECS) of a new size are being installed throughout the city.
There are already 117 new EZSs operating in the capital, which can charge 181 cars at the same time. A few dozen more stations will soon be connected. All new chargers are equipped with European and American connectors, so that any electric car can be charged on it.
What is the principle of choosing places to install charging stations?
We take the locations of new development and improvement facilities into account in advance, where we lay the charging infrastructure in the design phase, so that after the improvement work has been completed, only the installation of the EZS remains. Most chargers appear in places where people spend the most time: near shopping and business centers, in supermarkets and cafes, near residential buildings.
If you want a city EZS to appear near your home or office, write an email [email protected] Every request is considered and your wishes will be taken into account when planning the network – of course if there is a possibility for technology connection.
What are charging stations?
“Energy of Moscow” charges with a capacity of 22 kW and 50 kW per connector. Recently, together with Rosatom, stations with increased power, 60 kW, were tested. Soon these will also appear in the city. Rosatom is one of the operators of the Energy of Moscow project, together we test charging stations and test them in different conditions.
As part of the project, we plan to further increase power: progress is being made, battery capacity is growing and we we are trying to build a reserve for the future so that in a year or two new stations will not have to be divested and replaced by more powerful ones.
At the request of users, we increase the length of the station cable – now we are testing options of 4.5 and 5 meters.
We equip the city with special points for charging electric vehicles – electric hubs. For example, there is already an electric hub on Kievskaya with ‘fast’ and ‘slow’ charging stations. Here you can charge 7 cars at the same time and there is a parking lot with charging points for electric buses nearby.
How to charge a car?
To connect to one of our stations, you need to download the Moscow Transport application, select a convenient EZS on the map and arrive. By the way, the application has a booking function – in order not to queue, you can book the desired EZS and arrive in 5 minutes.
Do ICE cars get in the way?
In addition to the charging stations, we are setting up special places for charging electric vehicles. It is forbidden to park cars with a combustion engine in such places. Drivers are informed by a special combination of signs. Otherwise – a fine and evacuation.
What are the benefits for electric vehicle owners?
It is profitable to drive an electric car in Moscow: every user of an electric car can charge his car from the city of EZS absolutely free of charge, parking in Moscow city parking for electric cars is also free, and the owners of electric cars pay for cars no transport tax.
How many electric cars are there in Moscow?
According to the analysis firm Avtostat, the market for new electric vehicles has tripled in 2021 compared to 2020. And in the first half of 2022, 491 new electric cars were purchased in Moscow. This is 38% of the total turnover in Russia. Now there are about 3,000 electric vehicles in Moscow.
In the 7 months of 2022, the Energy of Moscow stations were charged more than 33,000 times, which is 6 times more than in all of 2021. On average, all EZS are charged about 146 times a day.
By 2022, the global fleet of electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids will reach 20 million units, according to Bloomberg’s forecast. Over 6 years, the numbers have increased by about 20 times. By 2025, the number of electric vehicles will grow to 70 million.
Will there be enough capacity for everyone to switch to electric cars?
Electricity production is growing steadily. According to the data of electricity network organizations, there is enough power in Moscow.
As part of the project, we support car manufacturers who contact us. For example, the company supplies us with a car for a test before delivery to the market. We check whether everything works, whether new models can be easily connected to city charging stations. Such cooperation is not only beneficial for business. If people see that there are no problems with charging, it will be easier for them to make a decision to switch to electric cars.
Urban public transport is going green: diesel buses are actively being replaced by environmentally friendly electric buses. Moscow is also one of the world leaders in the number of taxis and carsharing. On behalf of the mayor of Moscow SS Sobyanin, we support the use of electric vehicles – we pay subsidies to companies when purchasing electric cars. Thanks to the city’s support, electric vehicles have already appeared in car-sharing and taxi services.
First, it’s free for the owner – as is parking. And the owners of electric cars do not pay transport tax.
