Next year, in the Far East Federal District, a freight and passenger ferry will start operating between ports, for the construction of which 3.1 billion rubles was allocated. Now the amount of the state contract has been increased to almost 3.8 billion rubles, and this allows the ship to be launched earlier.
The ferry route is as follows: Kamchatka, Sakhalin, Magadan Region, Primorsky Krai, Kuril Islands. This will not only help develop the economy of the Far East regions, but also improve the transportation system.
The problem is that transport in the Far East today is mainly carried out by aircraft. It is both expensive and not universal. The ferry will be able to carry not only about 150 passengers, but also cars, buses and even trucks and freight containers.
The ferry will be launched in October this year, in a few months. This will be followed by sea trials, which will start at the end of February 2023. The ferry will start carrying passengers and freight in July 2023.
