At the same time, the number of accidents in Russia continues to fall: in the first six months – by 7.2%. 5651 people were victims of accidents (-3.9%) and 67.7 thousand were injured (-7.5%). Izvestia reports with reference to the analyzes of the Ministry of the Interior.
The situation is normalizing through the improvement of road infrastructure, stricter penalties for traffic violations and more responsible behavior of motorists and pedestrians.
For example, the number of crashes involving drunk drivers fell – immediately by 20%, to 5,295 in the first half of the year. This was the result of the systematic work of the traffic police and the motorists themselves have become more responsible – more and more road users who see a drunk driver on the road are reporting it to the police.
It is striking that after the actual abolition of the technical inspection for passenger cars, the accident percentage due to defective cars did not increase, but decreased by 21.2%. Accidents involving children decreased by 3.4% (8516 incidents) and the number of accidents at level crossings decreased by 27% (73 episodes).
However, unresolved issues remain: for example, unresolved legislation regarding electric scooters, which is getting more and more every year. Overall, in Russia, the number of accidents involving “Individual Mobility Devices” (IM) has increased by 2.7 times. Since the beginning of the year, 370 such cases have been registered, for the same period last year – only 135.
