The 2022 Toyota Camry scored the worst in the side crash test. spent U.S. Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).
In the crash test, “Camry test results showed a moderate risk of injury to the driver’s torso and pelvis, as well as a high risk of injury to the rear passenger’s pelvis,” he said.
In addition to the Camry, IIHS has implemented side impact pillars on six other cars of the current model year. The worst results were also shown by the Nissan Altima and Chevrolet Malibu. The Honda Accord C, Hyundai Sonata, and Volkswagen Jetta received Affordable ratings, while the Subaru Outback scored the highest.
“On the Camry, Altima and Malibu, the dummy heads (or both) of the driver or rear passenger slipped under the side curtain airbag and touched the door,” IIHS said.
IIHS is testing an updated side crash test – studies have shown that previous tests do not reflect the severity of real-life side crashes, which account for almost a quarter of deaths among passenger cars. The updated side test uses a heavier barrier moving at higher speed.
The new barrier weighs 1,905 kg, which is close to the weight of today’s mid-size SUVs. During the test, the barrier is pushed to the test vehicle at 60 km/h (1500 kg versus 50 km/h).
Previously, Jeep Wrangler again defective crash test, rollover after impact.
