One of the advantages of Lada Granta is a cost-effective service that you can perform yourself. But at the same time, one should not forget about some features, warns the expert of Za Rulem, the oldest and most authoritative automobile publication in Russia, Alexander Vinogradov.
The first feature of changing the oil filter can lead to breakdowns and cheap repairs if you don’t know about it. The second is to become a serious problem with candles, and the third is to cause trouble for the master himself who operates the car.
Feature #1 – Oil Filter
It’s not difficult to unscrew the oil filter on the Grant and you can get close to it from below as well as from above. This is located on the rear wall of the block, next to the exhaust manifold. But do not rush to unscrew it, rejoicing at the ease of disassembly. Unplug the crankshaft position sensor connector first if you don’t want to break it.
The problem is that when you unscrew it, the filter starts to rest against the wiring harness that goes to the sensor. It is not worth hoping that the tourniquet length will be enough and the filter will now come off the thread. By persisting, you risk breaking the sensor, especially if you use a puller to loosen the filter.
Feature #2 – Candles
VAZ-11182 engine plugs differ from the plugs of an unmodernized engine. They are thinner and therefore more fragile – Brisk MR14LC with 12-millimeter carving. The same spark plugs are used in some Renault-Nissan engines. It seems that on the contrary, it is good, but not quite. And it’s not just the higher price of such candles.
When unscrewing the candles, be careful, be in a comfortable position and do not rush – any misalignment of the candle key can cause the outer insulator to break. This will leave the inner insulator sticking out of the block and can be very difficult to remove. When tightening new candles, you also need to be very careful and watch the torque while tightening.
Feature #3 – Headlights
Changing lamps at Lada Grants is easy, you do not have to remove the headlight. But one problem awaits the master – the sharp edges of the headlight housing. The easiest way to peel your hand is to remove a burned-out bulb from the block. That is, when the brush is slightly compressed.
Therefore, it is necessary to work with gloves, which, among other things, will not leave greasy stains on the glass bulb, which can shorten the life of the lamp.
