From 1962 to 1964, the Chelyabinsk Tractor Plant developed a tank with a missile system. The tank had to be unobtrusive and fast in order to have time to launch a missile at a target and quickly change its location.
As a result, an unusual combat vehicle with a height of only 175 centimeters was born. The tank could fire both guided and unguided missiles. The crew of the driver and commander was housed in a special polyethylene cabin in the tower.
With a mass of 36 tons, the tank was powered by a 700 hp engine. The maximum speed was 70 km / h and the cruising range was 500 km. Hull armor – 80-120 mm, tower armor – 30-90 mm.
The main drawback of the tank turned out to be only its small stature: sometimes even grass hindered normal vision. As a result, the tank did not reach the series.
Mikhail Kolodochkin has been collecting unusual facts from the history of technology for many years. Did you know, for example, that an all-terrain vehicle was designed in the 1960s that can both fly and swim at GAZ?
