In 2021, the number of road accidents decreased by 3.1% (133,331). During the year, 14,874 people died on Russian roads, which is 5.8% less than the year before. The number of injured in traffic accidents decreased by 4.2% (167,856).
We initiated 182.9 million (+9.4%) files of administrative offenses in the field of road safety. Of these, 160.8 million offenses (88%) were captured by cameras and 22.1 million (12%) by police officers.
The number of photo and video capture devices on the roads has grown by about 10% over the year – there are now about 23 thousand across the country, and there will be more.
There were more violations, fewer accidents.
Income from fines paid also increased: from 71.9 billion rubles in 2020 to 84.7 billion rubles in 2021.
It cannot be said that the number of accidents has fallen only due to the effective detection of violations and the high vigilance of the traffic police. Gradually, the quality of many roads and their infrastructure improved. And they have given extensive explanations to the population about the importance of complying with traffic rules. All in all, this represents a positive trend for the ninth year in a row.

Even more dangerous are violations of the rules for crossing railway crossings (the seriousness of the consequences is 32.3), parking on the road or verge without lighting (18.4) and violations of the towing rules (16.7).
The dark time of the day requires maximum caution. A third of all accidents happened at night and at dusk, and nearly half of the total (45.9%) died.
How are the cars
Technical defects were found in 7,616 accidents, resulting in 1,226 deaths and 10 367 injuries. It should be clarified that the breakdowns were not necessarily the cause of these accidents – the inspectors simply marked them on the broken down cars. That is, a technical defect (for example, with deep paints or a raznoshinnitsa) can be a car that does not belong to the culprit, but to the victim.
