The Chery brand has only one Tiggo 8 in three faces (Simple, Pro and Pro Max). And then other Tiggo models, the Exeed brand and the upcoming Omoda brand do not count.
GAC only offers three models. Plus, there are only two real crossovers. In terms of assortment, therefore, a clear victory for Chery. What about the rest?
on asphalt
tiggo c 197 hp engine easily leaves the 190 hp GS8 – 8.4 s at one hundred against 10.1. In which Chery on average 1.5-2 liters per hundred kilometers is more economical.
On small bumps, both crossovers behave the same. But big and sharp potholes Chery runs softer (although it’s also far from ideal in handling and stability). In addition, it holds the track better without the need for steering.
On a country road
In terms of clearance, the cars have parity: 170mm under protection for the GS8, 175mm for the Tiggo 8 Pro Max. True, both have 15 millimeters more as standard: there is no standard security. But if the GAC can do without it, Chery, with its low-lying oil filter, is vital.
Four-wheel drive is purely crossover, don’t expect anything supernatural on the roads. It is impossible to forcefully block the clutch, electronic imitations work mediocre.
However, the HAK has a classic 6-speed automatic, which, unlike Cherie’s preselective robot, carries the load steadfastly and does not irritate with an unpleasant odor.
By crossover standards, the geometric cross-country ability of the “Chinese” is not bad. But four-wheel drive in difficult terrain won’t help much.
Let’s look inside
The GAC is roomier in the second and third rows, but the front seats aren’t as comfortable as the Chery’s. More of the GS8 and the trunk. However, the quality of materials Tiggo 8 Pro Max is a lot better. Yes, and more modern: more attention to detail, more refined design, a minimum of physical keys that have gone out of fashion.
According to the interiors between the machines, the difference is a generation. You don’t find as many buttons as there are in the GS8 (pictured right) in modern models.
How equipped?
Both cars can be equipped with adaptive “cruise” with other driving assistants. Both work hard. Tiggo pleases with rotating low beam lenses, but the stationary ones on the GS8 shine better.
With the necessary heating in our climate, order. Unless the GAK has ‘cold’ rear seats, and Cherie has the backs of the front seats (there’s no ventilation in them either).
But between the multimedia systems of this “Chinese” abyss. On the GS8, the graphics of the cameras are noticeably worse, the menu is not so meticulously Russified, there is no support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. And the screen is noticeably smaller. Respond to opponent the model can only have a full-fledged “climate” with three zones.
What to take?
Excluding discounts, Chery Tiggo 8 Pro Max will cost 3.9-4.2 million rubles. GAC GS8 with four-wheel drive (there are also two-wheel drive versions) is estimated at 3.39-3.59 million. A significant difference! But part (or even all) can be offset by special offers from Chery dealers. And in this case, Tiggo is definitely preferable to a noticeably outdated competitor.

We only have two “Chinese” with four-wheel drive and three rows of seats. The GAC GS8 hasn’t been updated for a while, while the Tiggo 8 Pro Max is a fresh model. Does the choice seem obvious? Do not hurry.
