Right-hand drive cars are becoming one of the trends in the Russian used car market. According to experts from the analysis agency “AUTOSTAT”, in a number of regions of the Russian Federation there is an increase in the market for right-hand drive vehicles. At the same time, it is interesting that in the Far East and Siberia, which own 84% of the right-hand drive market, their sales fell by 22% and 18% respectively.

And overall, in the first half of 2022, Russians bought 63.5 thousand right-hand drive cars, which is 17% less than in the same period last year. But where right-hand drive cars were traditionally not very popular, sales suddenly started to grow: in the federal districts of Central (+9%), Northwest (+14%) and North Caucasus (+1%).

Of course, these districts account for only 5% of the right-hand drive market, but in a more detailed breakdown – by constituent entities of the Russian Federation – the growth looks very impressive. So, in Chechnya, the largest growth of the market for “proules” was registered, + 74%! In addition, the purchase volume of such machines increased in 20 regions of our country and double-digit growth in 15 regions. These include the Moscow region (+15%), Moscow (+18%) and St. Petersburg (+24%).

Experts attribute this situation to an increase in the volume of imports of right-hand drive cars from Japan to Russia, as well as parallel imports, which the government of the Russian Federation has allowed under the sanctions.

  • Overall, used cars have increased in price by 17% in six months…
