Consumer Reports (CR), an American non-profit magazine that studies the consumer properties of goods in the United States. made List of the most reliable and economically used five-year-old sedans. Almost all of them were officially supplied to the Russian market or imported as part of “gray” imports.

Toyota Corolla

The first place in the CR rating was taken by the three-volume Toyota Corolla: 2017 was the last year for the 11th generation of this model. It was delivered to Russia with a 7-inch infotainment system, a display in the instrument cluster and dual-zone climate control, and there were three engines to choose from: 1.3, 1.6 and 1.8 liters.

Despite its small size, CR says the Corolla offers a relatively roomy cabin and enough legroom for the rear passenger. In addition, the sedan has good fuel economy (especially with a hybrid power plant): According to the results of driver surveys, the average consumption is declared at the level of 7.6 l / 100 km.

Prices for 2017 Corolla in Russia start from 1 million rubles for the regular version.

The cost of used options with right-hand drive is in the range of 700-800 thousand rubles. In reviews on classified sites, Corolla owners positively evaluate the low fuel consumption, good engine operation, comfort, reliability and general liquidity of the model at the next sale. The car is inexpensive to maintain, unpretentious, roomy and well controlled, visitors to the Drom.ru classification share their opinions in the reviews. Of the minuses of the car, they indicate poor sound insulation and poor sound quality of the audio system.

They also complain about the Turkish assembly of the Corolla – such a car “does not like” hard frosts.

Mazda6

In 2017, a restyled version of the Mazda 6 went on sale, in Russia it was sold with engines of 2.0 (150 hp) and 2.5 liters (192 hp), both were equipped only with an “automatic”. Among the features of this generation is a system for automatically reducing engine speed when steering wheel is turned, due to better loading of the front axle and grip of the wheels on the road.

“The Mazda 6 is not only a pleasure to drive and look at, but also has a good fuel consumption of 7.8 liters per 100 km,” CR magazine said in a study.

The cost of Mazda 6s used now is 1.3 million rubles.

Owners praise five-year-olds for low fuel consumption, high-quality seat upholstery and increased ground clearance. There are also complaints – the creak of the armrest, poor lumbar support for the driver’s seat, poor sound insulation.

Toyota Camry

In Russia, the 2017 Camry business sedan was sold with new options, in particular, with a 10-inch touchscreen with the Android operating system, this car became the first model of the brand on the Russian market with pre-installed Yandex services. The most powerful version was equipped with a 3.5-liter engine with 249 forces.

“While sedans are declining in popularity, there are several reasons why the Camry has always sold well – it’s spacious, quiet, comfortable and reliable,” CR said.

The average fuel consumption of the sedan is 8.4 liters per 100 km.

The cost of Camry with mileage in Russia starts from 1.4 million rubles. Owners of the five-year-old model call the powerful engine, pleasant upholstery, comfort, reliability and liquidity a plus. At the same time, many users are dissatisfied with the low ground clearance, poor sound insulation, old-fashioned radio (in the initial configuration) and expensive maintenance.

Honda Agreement

In 2015, Honda began reducing its presence in Russia and removed several models from sale, including the Accord. However, such cars continued to be imported into the country, including right-hand drive ones from Japan. Most often, hybrid versions with a capacity of 143 or 212 forces with a variator are on sale. An “automatic” 250 horsepower modification is also available. The average fuel consumption of the model is 8.4 liters per 100 km.

“The Accord is practical and easy to use. Reliable, economical, and in some ways even a sports car,” the magazine concludes.

In the secondary market, a five-year-old car costs an average of 1.7 million rubles.

Russian owners of the 2017 Accord include dynamics, appearance, handling, engine reliability and comfortable operation in winter conditions. Many agreed that the patency of Russian roads is not enough.

Volkswagen Passat

The B8 generation Passat was the only non-Japanese car to enter the Consumer Reports leaderboard. The car is built on a single modular MQB platform, which it shares with many other cars of the German concern, including the Skoda Superb and Audi A3. In the richest versions, a 180-horsepower engine allows you to gain 100 km / h in “near sport” 7.9 seconds, and the list of options includes a digital dashboard, three-zone climate control and parking sensors.

“The Passat stands out from other mid-size sedans with a large rear seat and trunk space. It is quite economical for such a large car with a 1.8-liter 4-cylinder turbo engine – an average of 7.8 liters per 100 km.

In Russia, a Passat behind a B8 can be found at a price from 1 to 3 million rubles,

Regarding the Passat, some Russian owners also complain about the low seating position and the high noise level while driving. Many noted a spacious interior, a smooth suspension travel, a “high-torque” engine and a roomy trunk.

Subaru Legacy

The Russian market for the fifth-generation Subaru Legacy sedan left the market in 2015, but later returned in the sixth generation. In the Russian Federation, the sedan was presented with a 2.5-liter engine with a capacity of 175 forces, combined with a CVT.

This is the only all-wheel drive sedan in the Consumer Reports ranking.

CR experts praised the Japanese car for its comfortable ride and good handling, noting that it was the cheapest mid-size all-wheel drive sedan on the market. Average fuel consumption is 8.7 liters per 100 km.

There are very few five-year-old Legacy on sale, companies from Primorye offer to buy on order, its cost is 1.3 million rubles.

Owners of the sixth-generation three- and four-year-old Legacy complain of poor sound insulation, vibration when driving over bumps even at high speed, poor-quality and flimsy plastic, blurry operation of the EyeSight driver assistance system and much more. .

Benefits include symmetrical all-wheel drive, which ensures an even transfer of torque between the wheels and responds quickly to pressing the vehicle’s accelerator and brake pedals.

Toyota Avalon

The Toyota Avalon rounds out the list of the best five-year-old sedans according to Consumer Reports; not officially delivered to Russia. Avalon has been manufacturing primarily for the North American market since 1994. At almost five metres, this is Toyota’s largest front-wheel drive sedan and has held that status for five generations. The 2022 model year was the last for Avalon – the manufacturer decided to abandon the sedan due to a shift in market conditions towards SUVs and electric cars.

Consumer Reports experts stated that Avalon is quite capable of competing with premium segment models. Average fuel consumption is 8.4 liters per 100 km. In large ads you can find only a few ads for the sale of Avalon in the Russian Federation, prices start from 2.1 million rubles.

Under the hood of a large sedan, a 3.5-liter engine with a capacity of 268 forces was installed,

Among the options are a number of active safety systems, seats with “automatic memory” settings, multi-zone climate control and much more.

As part of the study, CR experts examined, in addition to their own tests, the reviews of 300,000 car owners who evaluated the vehicles on seven parameters: reliability, economy, driving experience, comfort, cost, appearance and ease of control of the media system. In addition, vehicle owners were asked whether they would buy the same car again.
