In Russia, a patent has been granted for an industrial design of an intelligent beam for traffic police patrol cars – in addition to traditional flashing lights and a siren, there is a complex for photo and video recording of traffic violations with four cameras mounted in it.
The developer of the device is the Moscow-based company Recognition Technologies, which specializes in traffic cameras and software.

The intelligent beam in a fully automatic mode registers almost the entire range of major traffic violations in the traffic flow – from driving at the stop line, driving on special lanes to wrong turns, lane changes and parking under prohibition signs. The complexes will also be able to resolve violators who do not pay for parking. The system works continuously 360 degrees around the patrol car. In the future, devices could be used to check cars that have fallen into the lens, searched databases show.

In late June, the chief of Russia’s traffic police, Mikhail Chernikov, said the agency would begin testing intelligent beams as part of patrol cars (one each in Moscow, the Moscow region and St. Petersburg) from July. The trials will last at least three months.
