Without options – A15SMS 1.5 with eight valves (86 hp). Cast iron block, aluminum head, which does not tolerate overheating well – leaks and cracks can occur. In fact, most damage is caused by a careless attitude to the quality and quantity of oil. It is recommended to replace it every 7-10 thousand km – for many owners this is an “absurdly small” interval.

With normal maintenance, the engine is very reliable and lasts more than 400 thousand km.

Seals, valve cover gaskets and cylinder head are leaking. Other failures are mainly associated with the build-up of deposits on the rings, candles, nozzles and air valve. A noticeable spill of oil occurs only at 250 thousand km. The resource of the idle controller is small, there are complaints about attachments (starter, thermostat), radiators begin to leak early. Gasoline AI-92 – passport, there are hydraulic gap compensators. By modern standards, a “suburban” consumption of 7 liters per hundred seems too much, but for the turn of the century this is normal.

Many cars have been converted to gas, the engine digests it perfectly. The same engine was installed on Nexia, produced until 2016, there is no shortage of spare parts.

Transfer

The mechanical five-speed – a rethink of the old Opel F16 – is also simple and reliable. Disease – backstage connections are loosened, occasionally requiring fasteners to be pulled. Other problems arise mainly from the natural wear and tear of certain parts. The resource goes beyond 200 thousand km, the oil can not even be changed before this period. The unit has been thoroughly studied, removal from the car and repair are available in garage conditions.

The clutch serves 100-150 thousand.

Gear rack and ball bearing support bearings last a little longer. The steering rack is approaching 60-80 thousand, the power steering may leak. When working on flat roads, no intervention is required up to 100 thousand km, unless they ask for a replacement stabilizer bar. The data given is only valid for the original units, on most machines they have long since been replaced by cheaper and less resourceful counterparts.
  • Non-viable metal from the exhaust system, the fuel tank also rots relatively quickly. The trunk lock is stuck. The number of breakdowns of various electrics and the destruction of small plastic parts is directly proportional to the age of the machine.
