GAZ Group will begin serial production of Sobol NN’s light commercial vehicles in the fourth quarter of 2022, this information was disseminated on July 21 by the company’s press service.
The Industrial Development Fund (IDF), controlled by the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, will provide GAZ with a loan of 828 million rubles for the project, and on favorable terms (not more than 3% per annum). In total, 3.25 billion rubles will be allocated to start production of the new Sobol, of which 2.422 billion will be GAZ Group’s own resources.
GAZ Sobol NN
The pre-production prototype of the Sobol NN was presented in Moscow at the Russian Retail Week exhibition in early June. The “all-metal van” and “minibus” modifications will go into production first.
The total length of the Sable NN van is 5120 mm, the wheelbase is 2430 mm, the turning circle is 5.4 m. The internal dimensions of the cargo space (l/w/h) are respectively 2600, 1860 and 1614 mm, the volume is 7.8 cubic m, payload – 800 kg, chassis – 4×2, with rear-drive wheels. It is believed that such a change will appeal to delivery services and online retailers.
In particular, as clarified by FRP’s press service, GAZ will use the soft loan funds to purchase equipment for the preparation of body panels, the welding and seaming of doors and the modernization of lines for welding bases and body sides. The assembly and painting of Sable NN will be carried out on the existing lines of the GAZ car plant in one flow with the GAZelle NN and GAZelle Next families. Sobol NN will be offered in versions with a UMP Evotech petrol engine and a promising GAZ turbo diesel. The level of localization of the production of new items will be 83%.
