The Kama Automobile Plant posted a promo video on its official YouTube video hosting channel, showing the Hercules 40 super-heavy mining dump truck in motion for the first time, featuring an articulated chassis design. In the video, in particular, you can see the work of the articulation unit developed in Russia.
Recall that KAMAZ-6561 Hercules 40 was first shown publicly in September 2021. This 6×6 machine contains many innovations. For example, it is equipped with a “series hybrid” power plant – the turbo diesel here drives an electric generator, which supplies energy for the traction motor and charges the battery. The unit is also equipped with a recuperation system that collects kinetic energy during quarry descents – this solution reduces fuel consumption by 15% compared to a conventional diesel counterpart.
The empty weight of the chassis is 31 tons, the payload is 40 tons.
While the Hercules-40 is being tested, the company will begin assembling such machines on behalf of mining companies upon completion.
