Hyundai Motor is developing a mass-market electric car, the initial cost of which would be equivalent to 20 thousand euros (about 1.15 million rubles at the current exchange rate), Andreas-Christoph Hofmann, marketing director for the company’s European branch, said in an interview with Automotive news.
Without going into the technical details of the project, Hofmann nevertheless emphasized that at this stage the company is prioritizing higher-class electric vehicles, which have a high added value. A top Hyundai Motor executive also noted that there are problems with the placement of traction batteries in the bodies of small cars, including, of course, the budget model announced.
Recall that Hyundai’s first mass-produced electric car, the Ioniq 5 crossover, has been in production since 2021. The mid-sized electric sedan Ioniq 6 will go on sale in the fall of 2022. The Ioniq 7, a large seven-seat electric crossover, is scheduled for 2024.
By the end of this decade, Hyundai plans to have 11 electric car models in its product line.
