Mass production of a low-cost compact crossover Chevrolet Tracker of a new fourth generation has begun in Uzbekistan.

The full-cycle production of the car – with welding and body painting – took place at the plant of UzAuto Motors (the national automaker of this Central Asian country). The first commercial copies rolled off the line on July 18.

The organization of the assembly of the Chevrolet Tracker at the company’s plants in Asaka is part of UzAuto’s large-scale modernization plan, which has been implemented since July 2019. The model is built on the new GM GEM (Global Emerging Markets) platform – it is specially made for budget models aimed at the markets of developing countries.

The total cost of the project for the production of cars in Uzbekistan based on GM GEM is $620 million. This amount includes the purchase of licenses from the Americans, the modernization of the car factory and the localization of the production of components.

It is planned to produce 80,000 Chevrolet Trackers annually, from Uzbekistan they will be actively exported to the CIS countries. The company had a good look at Russia, which, however, is still on hiatus due to tougher anti-Russian sanctions.
