The total length of the main gas pipeline is approximately 6,700 km. 2700 km of them are planned to be carried out on the territory of Russia.
According to the preliminary tracing, Power of Siberia 2 will pass through the Irkutsk region, three districts of Buryatia, and then through the territory of Mongolia. Furthermore, the pipeline is planned to be connected to China’s West-East gas pipeline, through which blue fuel will be supplied to Shanghai.
However, this project is not yet completed. The Prime Minister of Mongolia explained that the exact schedule of the pipeline’s passage through the country’s territory does not yet exist. His words are quoted by the international business newspaper Financial Times.
The leaders of Russia and China discussed the project in December 2021. The Prime Minister of Mongolia has now announced that the feasibility study for the project has been completed.. Construction could start as early as 2024.
The publication notes that transit tariffs will aid Mongolia’s economic recovery from the effects of the coronavirus pandemic.
