The current text of the SDA was adopted in 1994 and much has changed in automotive life since then. This was partly reflected in the rules, and partly not, because from January 1, 2021 it was forbidden to adapt the traffic rules to avoid its excessive complication. And now apparently the time has come to rework the outdated text.

To find out the opinion of motorists about this, Za Rulem and Avtostat conducted a survey and found that 62% of respondents are in favor of rewriting the text of traffic rules, 25% believe that only point changes are enough, and only 13 % They believe that traffic rules should not be touched at all.

Do the traffic rules need to be rewritten or updated? Readers' opinion

Azat Timerkhanovhead of the press service of the agency “Avtostat”:

– To be honest, I can’t remember the last time I looked at the Rules of the Road. Thanks to what I got in a driving school, plus many years of driving experience, backed up by hundreds of thousands of miles behind the wheel, I feel confident on the road and drive without fines.

On the other hand, the traffic intensity is constantly increasing and something in the rules themselves may be outdated. It is therefore not surprising that more than 60% of the respondents find it necessary to rewrite the text of traffic rules.

At the same time, a quarter of respondents spoke out in favor of point changes – personally their point of view is closest to me. There’s no need to redo everything if you can get by with some overdue changes. In my opinion this would be the best solution.

But even if this happens, I’m unlikely to read the corrected text of the Rules. Everything on the road – signs, markings, traffic lights and more. You just have to follow their instructions, and there will be no problems.

Do the traffic rules need to be rewritten or updated? Readers' opinion

Maxim Kadakovyeditor-in-chief of the magazine “Behind the wheel”:

– For the driver, the SDA is the most important and broadly the only document. A motorist should not include additional GOSTs, acts, rules related to him … It is necessary to revise the traffic rules in a comprehensive way: remove unnecessary clutter, finally deal with the means of individual mobility, etc.

A comprehensive review should aim at greater clarity and transparency of the rules, linking them more clearly to the Code of Administrative Offenses. Because we drive according to the rules, but we do get a fine according to the Code of Administrative Violations.

Previously, the traffic rules stated that road users can rely on other road users to comply with the rules. It seems to me that something similar must return to the rules of the road and to the understanding of the people. And of course, after an extensive review of the rules and the introduction of relevant things there, such as means for individual mobility, a moratorium should be imposed on their change. For this endless development of the “new” is impossible. If we talk about the fact that a car is a source of increased danger, then it is impossible to deal with the set of rules so easily.
