Now many Russian projects have a chance of serial implementation. There was no import – you have to make your own. Although even in such circumstances some ideas seem utopian. What can’t be said about the Arrow.
1. Serial Base
Arrow production does not require finding new suppliers or creating a complex production from scratch.
The frame, the drive unit, the chassis, the cab, the interior – everything comes from the serial GAZelle. So far from Next, but no problems converting to a more modern NN family.
The most valuable thing now is that GAZ seems to have learned to live under sanctions. He doesn’t stand still, he works. And it is even developing: its own diesel engine and automatic transmission are being prepared.
Strela can also receive these units during the development of the project.
2. Popular format
We love ATVs. And then there are the dimensions such that the UAZ Patriot looks like a baby. The space in the cabin and the endless trunk are excellent. But the Arrow will not fit every lane on the road, in a metropolis it will certainly be difficult with it.
But in the countryside – that’s it. Massive ground clearance and virtually no front overhang are invaluable off-road. There is no four-wheel drive on the prototype. But the serial version will definitely get it (when it comes down to it). Units of a mass and, moreover, commercial model are a guarantee of reliability and low maintenance costs.
The saloon is still of the GAZelle Next, but it is not difficult to replace it with a more modern one of the NN model.
3. Powerful Motors
The project includes the construction of not only station wagons, but also pick-up trucks with one- and two-row cabs. All components of the GAZelle NN can also be used on the Strela: the gas van has been modernized – the Strela has been modernized.
The huge hood (it leans forward in one piece along with the wings, headlights and radiator grille) suggests it’s ready to hide the engine and is more impressive than the Cummins 2.8 diesel. It may be YaMZ-534: 4.4 liters and power for 200 hp. That’s when the arrow will fly!
In the second row there are three separate armchairs and generous spaciousness.
4. Place of production
Arrow builtand by the forces of the youth design bureau, they are mainly students of Baumanka. To go from the self-made state to the conveyor belt, you need an assembly place. KBM cannot organize it alone. But together with GAZ … – pwhy not? There the components are literally behind the wall and there are capabilities of the Volkswagen group.
