Amendments to the Law “Road Safety”, which came into force on April 1, 2024, determine the procedure and timing for replacing foreign driver’s licenses with Russian ones. In our meeting with the agency about this issue “Hit the primer” Petr Gusyatnikov, senior managing partner of law firm PG Partners, said:

According to him, people who received a residence permit (residence permit) or Russian citizenship after this date must obtain a Russian driver’s license within one year from this moment.

Russian citizens who obtained a driver’s license abroad will also need to change their driver’s license within one year after entering the Russian Federation. At the same time, Belarusian citizens and Russians who received a driver’s license in this country will not need to re-obtain their driver’s license.

The changes adopted in the law do not mean that certain categories of driver’s licenses will become invalid as of April 1. To change these, you have one year to obtain the document. Failure to do so will result in the license being invalidated and driving with such licenses will result in a fine of between 5 and 15 thousand rubles, the expert said.

Previously in Russia offered If there are 10 unpaid fines, drivers will be temporarily stripped of their driver’s license.
