Aleksey Ruzanov, technical director of the international network of car service centers Fit Service, told socialbites.ca. According to it, brake malfunction can be determined independently.
“For example, it is possible to react incorrectly to the brake pedal – “sinking” into the ground or moving harshly. In the first case, this may indicate a decrease in the brake fluid level. And in the second – about the breakdown of the vacuum amplifier. If the pads are significantly worn, a sharp squealing or grinding sound may occur during braking,” said Ruzanov.
Drivers don’t check their brake fluid levels often, according to an automotive expert. It is also fed into the system through the main line – through rubber hoses and metal pipes. Over time, these parts wear out, cracks form or break. Liquid is leaking onto the asphalt. This could lead to brake failure and the risk of an accident.
If the vehicle is pulled to the side while braking, the caliper guides may become jammed or worn. This malfunction will not necessarily lead to immediate brake failure, but the brake discs will overheat and pad wear will accelerate significantly.
