The Audi Ecofund launches the third phase of a project with the German-Indian startup Nunam: battery modules from Audi e-tron test vehicles electrify India’s three-wheelers.
So far, Nunam has brought three electric rickshaws to the streets of India. They are powered by used batteries from test vehicles from the Audi e-tron test fleet. The aim of the project is to investigate how modules from high voltage batteries can be reused after being in a car.
In early 2023, second-hand battery e-rickshaws will hit the road for the first time as part of a pilot project in India. In particular, it will increase employment for women in India: they will get electric rickshaws to transport them, so they can sell their own products without intermediaries.
The electric rickshaw is powered by used battery modules that have spent their first life in the Audi e-tron. Older batteries are still powerful enough to be used in lighter vehicles with lower range and performance requirements.
