In modern conditions, flushing the engine lubrication system when changing the oil is necessary only in some cases. In this respect reports “Rossiyskaya Gazeta”, citing Alexander Nosko, service manager of the Fresh automotive market.
“It makes sense to clean the engine if mineral engine oil is replaced with semi-synthetic or synthetic, since the first type of oil leaves a viscous film with a consistency similar to varnish, which reduces the properties of “synthetics”. Nosko said that flushing is also necessary after any engine repair or after purchasing a used car without information about the filled engine oil.
According to him, a few decades ago, when changing the oil, it was necessary to flush the engine, especially if its type was changed. This was due to the minimum amount of cleaning additives in the engine oil produced at that time and the need to remove microdust, unburned fuel particles and other wear products remaining in the lubrication system.
